Distributed Intelligence
SCS modules support the advantages of control architecture with distributed intelligence:
- faster production cycles by pre-assembled modules with own control units
- more simple installation and setup by pre-tested modules
- reduced R&D effort by re-use of software modules

Local I/Os The I/Os of a powerful control system need to be modular and adaptable to the requirements of the application.
SCS can be equipped with two different kinds of local I/O:
- built
in digital/analog I/O ; the unit with the controls systems also
includes the hardware for a number of I/Os
- extension unit
with MODULbus modules; a separate box is directly hooked up to the
control system. Up to four modules can be added.

Communication
A
very demanding task for a control system is the communication- within
the system and with the exterior world. SCS units therefore come with a
CAN-Bus ‘on board’ and with an interface to all other field busses via
the MODULbus modules :
